John Andrew became a volunteer by accident when he won a Francis House Goblet (in the raffle, not for his golfing ability!) at our Annual Charity Golf Day at Stockport Golf Club in 1993. The goblet was taken to Spain by John and a group of his friends, who played with Spanish locals. They all chipped in and raised over £60. Since 1995 the ‘Goblet’ has been played for annually in Spain and Portugal during October. The event is very popular and attracts approximately 100 Lady and Gentlemen golfers of varying abilities and ages.
The success of the October trip has blossomed into three golfing holiday trips per year and John has organised trips to Cape Town and Durban in South Africa, Barbados, Italy (Lake Maggiore), Madeira and Ireland.
In 2008 two couples who met on a Francis House holiday were married. Was this ‘par’ for the course? All holidays are administered by fully bonded travel companies.
The support from golfers raises over £30,000 annually for the very valuable work at Francis House.
