Land of Fire and Ice – Trekking the Icelandic Mountains
3rd – 10th September 2017
The third Francis House overseas fundraising challenge trek is taking place soon, and you’re invited! Join fellow Francis House supporters on a trip of a lifetime!
Our previous treks to Jordan in 2013 and Morocco in 2015 raised a remarkable total of £85,918 in sponsorship.
If you’re the type of adventurer who thinks that trekking is spectacular – Iceland is the place for you! The trip will fly from Manchester to Reykjavik, then an internal flight to Egilsstaðir, in the North East of Iceland. The challenge involves 5 days of hiking through the magnificent landscapes of mountains and small bays of the North East. The mountains come in all shapes and sizes and the variety of colours is stunning; everything from the black sands of the beaches to the pink orange hues of the mountain ridges. Each day follows old trails between isolated coves and fjords over colourful hills and down green valleys alongside the North Atlantic Ocean. This combination of mountains and ocean is what makes the trek a unique one; another advantage is the milder climate that can be expected at this low altitude. The trip will end with a free day to explore Reykjavik.
Accommodation during the trek will be in heated mountain huts, and luggage (sleeping bags etc) will be transported in trucks each day. The trek is open to all ages (over 18s) and a good level of fitness is required. We will be planning a number of training walks and will provide guides to help prepare you for the trek.
