How to Make a Referral
The Children
Francis House provides care for children of all faiths and cultures with life limiting conditions where life expectancy would not normally exceed late teenage years. Children and young people can be accompanied by parents and siblings or stay alone.
Their conditions include:
• Neurological diseases
• Neuromuscular diseases
• Metabolic diseases
• Cancer
• Cardiac & respiratory diseases
How to Refer
• Young people should be under sixteen years of age on first referral
• A referral can be made by anyone who knows the child.
• Senior staff request medical information from the child’s GP and Consultant.
Care Provided
The hospice works in partnership with parents and compliments and augments the care provided by hospital and community services.

• End of Life Care
• Bereavement support
• Regular contact system
• Emotional support
• Sibling support
• Parents support
Facilities
The hospice is situated in Didsbury, South Manchester.
There are seven individual bedrooms for sick children and comfortable accommodation for their families at Francis House and four individual bedrooms for teenagers/young adults at Francis Lodge (siblings and friends of a similar age may also stay at Francis Lodge).
Facilities include:
• Jacuzzi
• Sensory room
• Soft play area
• Computer room
• Music therapy
• Art room
• Toys and games for all ages
• Gardens with wheelchair swings
• Sensory garden
• Adapted vehicles for trips out
Staff
A multi-professional care team looks after the children. The team consists of registered sick children’s nurses, general nurses, nursery nurses, social workers, a music therapist and a creative therapist.
Medical input is provided by four local GPs qualified and skilled in paediatric and palliative care who liaise with the children’s Consultants.
