Launch of our new building for teenagers and young adults

al fayedA launch was held on 6th May 2014 to mark the completion of our new 3.5 million extension.

In recognition of the extraordinary generosity shown by former Harrods owner Mr Mohamed Al Fayed a plaque was unveiled on the Fundraising building.  Mr Al Fayed was joined by his daughter, Camilla and Kirsty Howard.

Paralympic Gold Medalists and World Champion cyclists Dame Sarah Storey and Barney Storey and some of our young people and families were given a tour of the seven bedroom building.

In October 2012 just after the Olympic Games, Dame Sarah Storey laid a foundation stone with 18 year old Kate Snape.  “I knew the facilities would be top notch but it’s fantastic to see it now, everyone should be so proud.  There’s a real buzz from the young people who are really looking forward to being able to make the most of their time relaxing and maybe take their minds off what they have to cope with on a daily basis.”

SarahFacilities in the parent-free zone include a first floor terrace with large glass balcony allowing unrestricted views across a garden.  Bedrooms are fitted with PlayStation 4s, televisions and hoists to en-suite bedrooms.  A purpose built music and cinema room will also be used as a space to record music as well as messages to family and friends.

In March last year Coronation Street star, Sally Dynevor, attended a topping out ceremony to celebrate reaching the highest part of the building.  “It’s a remarkable place.  All the fundraising that goes into making it work is incredible”.
