A team of intrepid walkers from Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers on Oldham tackled the Saddleworth Three Peaks in aid of Francis House Children’s Hospice.

Twenty-five staff from across all areas of the firm took part in the challenge and the group clocked up nearly 400 miles between them – that’s the equivalent of walking from Manchester to Inverness.

For some it was a baptism of fire as it was their first walking challenge, for others it was a chance to enjoy a day out on the Saddleworth moors and at the same time raise funds for charity.

The Saddleworth Three Peaks takes in Alderman Hill, Alphin Peak, otherwise known respectively as Indians Head and Pots and Pans, as well as Wharmton Hill, noted for its TV transmitter visible across the whole of Saddleworth.

Setting off from Greenfield the group stopped for refreshments at the Church Inn, Hare and Hounds, and the Farrar’s Arms, and would like to thank all those who generously contributed on the day.

Fundraising target

Staff that took part paid £10 to get the fundraising off to a good start and since completing the challenge they have raised more than £825.  The group hope to reach a total of £1,000 for the children’s hospice, which is the nominated charity of the year for the Oldham based law firm.

Commenting on the team effort, Suzanne Wright, of Pearson, said: “It’s great to get out and about and we were fortunate with the weather.  Blisters aside, we all had a great time and it’s a bonus to raise cash for such a worthy cause.  We took family, friends and four legged companions along with us and everyone agreed it’s one to repeat, we enjoyed the challenge.”

Julie Williams, of Francis House Children’s Hospice added: “We are most grateful to Pearson Solicitors for making this commitment to support our charity and we look forward to working with the team throughout the year.

“We rely on the support of the local community and organisations to ensure that we can continue to provide a free service to the children and families who need us most.”
