Congratulations to Dr Eamonn O'Neal, who has been awarded an OBE in the King's New Year Honours list.
Dr Eamonn O’Neal, High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Deputy Lieutenant, broadcaster, and a trustee of Francis House Family Trust, has been awarded an OBE for “services to charitable causes and to people with disabilities in North West England”.
On hearing of his award Eamonn said –
“I’m very grateful that this honour reflects the amazing work done by the many varied charities I’ve been associated with over the years…
“… I’m so proud of Francis House and the unrivalled services it offers children and their families. It has offered exemplary hospice care from its base in Didsbury for the past 35 years and has a well-deserved world-wide reputation for being the leader in the sector.”
Eamonn has occupied the airwaves for more than 30 years and had a successful partnership on Radio Manchester with his brother-in-law, Jimmy Wagg. Their WOW theatre shows raised significant amounts of money for local charities.
Chair of Trustees, Jane Kempler, commented –
“Eamonn has the congratulations of everyone at Francis House and we feel that the honour is well deserved”.
One of Eamonn’s repeated comments begins –
“…and I got a phone call from Sister Aloysius – have you ever had a phone call from Sister Aloysius?”
Each time Francis House has needed help, Eamonn has been available; ever since the first video on which he acts as narrator and commentator.
Well done, Eamonn!!
