Ever wondered what a children's hospice is really like?
It may be chilly outside, but this November there is a warm welcome waiting for you as Francis House the much-loved children’s hospice opens its doors for a public Open Day.
The viewing day on Saturday November 4, gives members of the public and supporters, the opportunity to see how their donations help support children and families from across Greater Manchester.
Guided tours at the hospice on Parrswood Road in Didsbury, are led by members of the hospice care team and take place throughout the day. Visitors will be given a glimpse behind the scenes of the incredible facilities including the sensory and cinema rooms, hydrotherapy pool, soft play and music rooms.
Francis House supports the families of children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. Family flats and bedrooms for siblings are available on site to enable the whole family to enjoy a well-earned break and return home refreshed.
Caring for a disabled child or young person with complex needs can be very tiring and with a team of play specialists, nursery nurses and registered nurses, Francis House can take care of the needs of the child whilst having fun.
In addition to the tours, members of the public will be able to purchase merchandise and find out about upcoming events to take part in. Refreshments will also be available in the hall.
Francis House Children’s Hospice opened in 1991, at the time it was only the fifth children’s hospice to be built in the UK. In 2014 the hospice doubled in size with the opening of a teenage and young adult wing. The age-appropriate environment is a parent-free zone and offers the young people valuable independence.
It costs £4.8 million a year to run Francis House with the majority of income raised through charitable donations.
The Francis House open day takes place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 4 at Francis House Children’s Hospice, 390 Parrswood Road, Didsbury M20 5NA.
No children or families will be resident during Open Day. For more information call 0161 443 2200.
