United stars visit Francis House

Manchester United captain Michael Carrick, alongside defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, spent time with children and young adults at Francis House Children’s Hospice in the run up to Christmas.

The surprise visit, organised annually by the Manchester United Foundation, sees players visiting poorly youngsters in hospitals around Manchester over the festive season.

The stars met with the families of children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and heard how the hospice supports them with respite care for the whole family.

The players then spent time posing for photographs before handing out signed shirts to thrilled hospice users.

David Ireland, chief executive of Francis House said: “The visits from the Manchester United players make a big difference to everyone at Francis House. The whole family is made to feel really special and the visit gives them happy memories to share and cherish together. Thank you to Michael, Chris and Phil and to the Manchester United Foundation.”

Francis House helps more than 460 sick children, teenagers and young adults with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families from across Greater Manchester. Francis House services are all given completely free of charge and include respite care, home care, sibling support, end of life care, emotional and bereavement support.
