Runners Storm Heaton Park

Despite the windy weather with Storm Amy sweeping across the UK, our dedicated runners weren’t discouraged. They showed up determined as ever.

Nine amazing runners representing Francis House took part in the 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon events, raising an incredible £2,600 (including Gift Aid) in total.

The atmosphere in the event village was buzzing and the race day began with a lively warm-up helping to shake off the chill. Each group of runners looked full of energy and ready to take on their challenge.

Terry Farish’s daughter Aria received end of life care at Francis House and Terry and Aria’s uncle, Adam Barker, ran two loops of the 10k course raising almost £750.

Terry said: “The first hill hit harder than I expected. When I saw my family holding the “Go Terry” sign it took everything in me not to crack right there. On the second lap the hill nearly floored me, but then I thought about Aria, how even in her final moments, she never stopped fighting for each breath. That thought hits me every time it gets hard.”

Evie Jarman-Holmes, who braved her first ever half-marathon, said: “Trust me to pick my first ever half marathon during Storm Amy! However, despite the weather, I had an amazing time. The support from Francis House was incredible, and it was an honour to raise funds for such a wonderful cause.”

Laura Pickles and Trina Mellor ran the 5k raising an impressive £435. Trina said: “It was an inspiring day surrounded by inspiring people coming together for a great cause.”

The final Run for Francis House at Heaton Park takes place on Sunday 7th December. Sign up during October or November to enter for free, with a minimum sponsorship target of £75.

James Ferguson, fundraiser of Francis House said: “On behalf of Francis House I’d like to congratulate all of our runners on braving the weather and hills of Heaton Park. Thank you for raising vital funds in support of the hospice.”
